  • QUERY LETTER CRITIQUE

Just like the 10-pager, query letter critique is about so much more than the query letter. If you are not able to concisely answer the most important question: “What’s it about?” And my notes help clarify that, chances are there is still work to do on the manuscript. Writing is re-writing. Most writers are so eager to submit that they are submitting too soon. If your query letter needs a lot of reworking, the notes will help you discover where your story may be weak. The query letter is your first line of defense in submitting. I know what will make an agent reject it or request to see pages.

    The 10-pager $95

I have learned that giving detailed notes for the first ten pages of your manuscript applies to much more than 10 pages. Every single writing note can be applied to the entire manuscript. Whatever writing mistakes a writer makes in 10 pages, you can bet the same mistake is being made throughout. It helps flush out: What does this story appear to be about? What are possible upcoming events in the story, and how can the draft be taken to the next level. It’s about so much more than 10 pages. Agents know after the first 5 pages if they are going to keep reading. Submit your first 10 pages for in-depth critique.

If you are looking to workshop an entire novel, consider my advanced class.

READY TO WRITE YOUR NOVEL BUT NEED A ROAD MAP?

THE COMPLETE STORY is an extensive volume of writing exercises, and guided assignments all designed to help you write your story in one year, or at least finish the first draft. Jerry used to have this course priced at over $2,000, and while I feel it’s still worth that, I know that most writers do not have that kind of money to spend on a course. I am lowering the price to $499. (Graduates of the 6-week program get a substantial discount)

THIS IS THE EXACT COURSE I USED WHILE WRITING MY FIRST NOVEL.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A SELF-DIRECTED COURSE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF EMAIL FEEDBACK FROM ME AS YOU PROGRESS. IF YOU WANT MORE OF A GUIDED COURSE, LOOK INTO THE ONLINE CLASSES.

    This course will:

    Help you get started

    Help keep you going

Help you focus on the important elements of craft

Lead you through assignments designed to flesh out your story — The assignments will be emailed to me in order and I will give feedback accordingly

Keep you writing during the year

This course will be emailed to you in PDF format. Hard copies and mailings will incur an additional charge. Email Mary@Immediatefiction.com to get started.

    MUST BE PAID IN ADVANCE

Are you working on a novel but the road is a bit bumpy?

    Are you experiencing:

    Story problems?

    Creative blocks?

Do you need to bounce ideas/problems off someone who has been there before?

Is your story—stuck? Have you lost motivation?

Writers deal with problems with plotting, emotion, dialogue, climax, beginning, middle, and endings. Come to the loft and have a one-on-one session focused entirely on your story, or set up a Skype appointment.

There are several options if you are interested in taking the course online. The first option is that if I get enough students interested, we could set up a Skype class once a week for 6-weeks. The date and times each week would need to be decided by the group.

The second option is that I would send you a video of a recorded lecture each week. Assignments would be given with feedback and critique via email. Skype conference calls could be arranged as needed.

Please contact Mary to arrange one of the above options.

Must pay in advance $575 for 6-weeks – Payment plans available as low as $115 a month for 5-months if set up on a credit card. I would send you the link to the payment plan.
